Follow Up - Workshop Report
A one day children’s workshop on the Right to Information was organized on 22nd November, 2009 at Hailpia in district Pithoragarh by ARPAN. In this followup workshop 78 children from the different villages of the 7 Bal Panchayat shared their experiences with each other. Four School Principals, one ASHA worker, two health workers and other members of the village community also participated in the workshop.
Sneha Baseda president of Rahien Bal Panchayat and Secretary Neeraj Upadyay gave the detail of the RTI campaign that they had carried out in the past year as well as their experience of the state level workshop to the participants. The other Bal Panchayat children also shared their experiences with each other.
Vandana Gwal from the Bal Panchayat Ujjawal read a poem on RTI.
Dr. Baliga health worker from Delhi encouraged the children to use the RTI to know about the health facilities of their village.
Advocate Mr. Pradeep Pathak told the children “it is our right to obtain information from any government department and no one should get nervous. If information in not forthcoming then an appeal should be filed”.
Principal of Girl Junior High school Ms. Parvati was very impressed with the activities of children. "We will never stop you from righting a wrong".
