Follow up - Workshop Report

A one day children’s follow up workshop on the Right to Information was organized on 11th November 2009 at Omkara Nand Highschool Jakholi, district Rudraprayag, by the NGO, GRASS. In this workshop 223 children from 15 villages of different Bal Panchayats shared their experiences with each other. School teachers, health workers, social workers and other members of the villager community also participated in the workshop.

206 Bal Panchayat children from the five villages had participated in the one year campaign. The Bal Panchayat children filed 30 RTI applications to the different departments of the government and they received satisfactory answers from the concerned government departments.

Bal Panchayat children Seema Saklani and Vandana Thapliyal shared their experiences of the state level workshop held in Dehradun, with the participants.

Kshetra Panchayat Sadasya Mr. Kunwar Singh Bhandari said the Right to Information Act is a very important right for the common man.

Mr. Prabhudayal Bhandari member of Ex. Army Man Organization and Mr. Gyanendra Bhandari from community health centre Jakholi also expressed their views and admired the children’s initiatives.

Mr. Govind Singh Negi Principal Omkaranand Highschool said, The Right to Information Act is a very good tool for all members of society as it would help control corruption in society.
