Bipin Shah
Bandrani (Raithal), Uttarkashi

In Memorium
1985-2005

Whenever Bipin Shah returned home on leave from his duties as a rifleman in the Indian Army, he would call together the children of the Raithal MCF chapter and ask them about their activities and plans. He was one of their most active and avid supporters.

When they heard that he had been killed while on duty in the Northeastern state of Manipur, the children went to his home to offer their support and comfort to his family. They also organized a vigil in his memory. The Government has issued a declaration stating that the motor road leading to the village would be named after him as also the High School in Bhatwari, Uttarkashi.

Shortly before his death, Bipin had written a poem that he shared with the children:

What is this thing, life?

I heard that life is a smile,
Will someone tell me, what is this thing we call life?
The weary traveler told me stopping, only stopping is life
The poor and suffering man told me,
Money, only money, is life
If someone asks me, what is life, I would tell them that,
To stumble and regain your balance is life.
