How MCF has changed my life!

I am Saurabh Kumar Singh. I am a Founding member of Mountain Children’s Forum. In 2002, when I was in High School I was not aware about the world around me. I got an opportunity to participate in International Conference of Mountain Children (ICMC) from 17th May to 21st May 2002. After participating in ICMC there was a change in my attitudes and personality and now I can think of those things which I would not have considered thinking of before. The ICMC changed my whole life. After one or two years of ICMC I helped create a children’s group in my village called “Baal Panchayat Horawalla”, and we started working as a team. We have done a lot of work in our village for example tree plantation, we organized different types of Health Awareness camps, with the support of Mountain Children Forum we organized a  workshop on Disaster Management, we conducted a survey on child labour for “Child Line” to name a few. Now the villagers of Horrawalla have begun believing and helping us and this has raised our motivation level and it has give us the urge to work harder.
 We generate awareness of child rights at village, block and district level with Mountain Children’s Forum.

By gaining motivation and confidence from these activities I applied for and received admission in M.BA at ICFAI, National College, Dehradun. The activities of the Baal Panchayat has generated a lot of interest not only amongst the faculty but also amongst the companies like Reliance Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard etc which came to our college for short selling assignments and summer internship program. Most interviewers focus more on the work I did in the Baal Panchayat than what I study in my MBA.

Now, when I think about my career and future, I can see where I stand and what I can think of achieving in the coming years. The Mountain Children’s Forum has helped me improve my analytical skill, communication skill, organizational skill, and have also helped me gain self confidence and self sufficiency. This package of leadership qualities has been given to me as a gift by Mountain Children’s Forum. This is something all members of the MCF will gain. All Baal Panchayat members must realize that working collectively is the biggest achievement as it helps you face any work atmosphere in the future.
