Champawat

Champawat is located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand on the border of Nepal. The literacy rate in Champawat is 71.1%, which is slightly lower than the state average (2001 Census). The district has 490 primary schools, 107 junior high schools, 27 high schools and 23 Intermediate (classes 11&12) schools. The population density is 126 people per square kilometer.

Recent activities:

Aug 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI workshops in Champawat, KAGAS, has conducted a series of 5 village level workshops and have involved a total of 152 children. Read about the RTI applications filed by these children.

Jan 2009: The Silicon Valley chapter of Asha for Education has joined forces with the MCF to promote understanding and use of the Right to Information act in rural mountain communities. The MCF is partnered by 18 NGOs to help spread the awarness amongst the village children. KAGAS in Champawat, is one such partner and they have conducted a series of 5 RTI workshops at the village level. RTI applications have been filed with the concerned departments. Read more ....
