Almora

Almora is known as the cultural centre of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Located within view of the majestic Himalayas, Almora is also a popular tourist destination and is known for its hand-woven woolen products. The population density in Almora is 205 people per square kilometer. The literacy rate is 74.5%. There are 1,510 primary schools, 237 junior high schools, 82 high schools, and 104 intermediate (classes 11&12) schools in the district.(Census 2001)

Activities:

Aug 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI workshops in Champawat, KAGAS, has conducted a series of 5 village level workshops and have involved a total of 210 children. Read about the RTI applications filed by these children.

Jan 2009: The Silicon Valley chapter of Asha for Education has joined forces with the MCF to promote understanding and use of the Right to Information act in rural mountain communities. The MCF is partnered by 18 NGOs to help spread the awarness amongst the village children. SUDHA in Almora, is one such partner and they have conducted a series of 5 RTI workshops at the village level. RTI applications have been filed with the concerned departments. Read more ....
