Workshop Report

A one day children’s workshop on the Right to Information was organized by Jan Chetna Kendra on 15th November, 2009 at Srinagar in district Pauri Garhwal. A total of 154 people participated in the workshop. These included children from the Baal panchayats, their parents, villagers, media persons and social workers.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Santosh Mamgain from the Society for Revolution Against Corruption. He said that his organization would support anyone who wanted more information on the RTI Act. He appreciated the children’s initiative and said it is a unique example set by the children.

Bal Panchayat childern Asish from village Sweet, Beena Bisht and Preeti Chauhan from village Ufalta also shared their experience with the participants. 

The Base Line and End Line Survey was also discussed in detail. The salient points being that at the start of 2009 only 28 people had heard of the RTI Act and by the end of the year 1743 had not only heard about the act but 25 applications had been filed.
