Workshops & Conferences

Introduction:

MCF workshops provide an opportunity for young people from distant communities to spend time together and share their concerns, experiences, and accomplishments. These gatherings build leadership and communication skills and energize the children to become more active in their communities, effects that extend far beyond the workshop itself.

Recent workshops:

July 2010: The second phase of the RTI campaign sponsored by Asha (SV) commenced with a workshop in Haridwar district by MCF and their new partner organisation PDI. 30 children participated in the workshop which was also endorsed by feedback from the elders of the village. Read more.....

July 2010: A one day follow up workshop, sponsored by Give2Asia, was organised by MCF and their partner organisation, Hensr, at village Nagangaon in district Uttarkashi. 75 participants comprising children, parents and grand-parents attended the workshop. Read how the children have started interacting with the their grand parents and have promised to look after them.

June 2010: A new partner in the second phase of the RTI campaign, Naina Gramin Vikas Seva Samiti (NGVSS), organised a workshop under the guidance of the MCF at Khetalsanda (Kham) village, Udham Singh Nagar. 40 members participated in the workshop.

June 2010: Due to the successful impact of last year's (2009-2010) RTI campaign, Asha-SV has decided to support the MCF for another year (2010-2011). This project will help another 1,950 young people tap the power of India's Right to Information Act (RTI) to improve their communities. It will include 65 village-level workshops between May 2010 and April 2011 through which young people will learn to file applications as well as follow up on unsatisfactory answers through the RTI appeal process. To this end a facilitators workshop was conducted on 16th - 17th June. 13 partner organisations were present for the workshop.

June 2010: On Enviornment day the Horrawala Baal panchayat took the initiative to organise a drawing competition in Vikasnagar Block. They were supported in this endevour by the MCF. 21 children participated in the competition. The drawings most appreciated by the children are available for viewing.

May 2010: A workshop on strenghtening children's groups, was conducted on 24th-25th May 2010 at village Nagan, district Uttarkashi, by MCF with their partner organisation HENSR. This is the fourth workshop in a series on 9, which have been sponsored by Give2Asia.

May 2010: A one day workshop on Child Rights was organised in Purola village of Uttarkashi district, by MCF with their partners Nav Chetna Shiksha Sansthan. Read about how the children were made aware of what their rights are.

May 2010: The third Give2Asia workshop was conducted on 8th-9th May 2010 at village Bhanaj, district Rudraprayag, by MCF with their partner organisation Mandakini ki Awaz Kalyan Sewa Samiti.

Feb 2010: Give2Asia has sponsored MCF to conduct a series of 9 two day workshops with 5 partner organisations. The workshops commenced with one in Rishikesh and the other in Kasialekh with the partner NGO organisations, Swayam Social Welfare Organisation, Rishikesh and CHAHAT, Nainital respectively.

Nov 2009: 5 follow up workshops sponsored by Asha (SV), were conducted by MCF and their partners GRASS in the districts of Rudraprayag, CHESTA, SARAL & VIMARSH in Nainital, JAN CHETNA KENDRA in district Pauri, ARPAN in district Pithoragarh and SEAD in district Dehradun. The children who had attended the state level workshop in Oct. 2009, were able to share their experiences with 759 participants of 50 villages including children from various baal panchayats, school teachers, health workers, social workers and members of the village community.

Oct 2009: The MCF and Asha (SV) concluded the year long RTI awareness programme with a workshop on 11th - 12th Oct 2009. Dr. Maithani, stated “the MCF network is a fantastic/ extraordinary altruistic network that not only spreads awareness about RTI but actually uses the right as well.

Oct 2009: The RTI program was sponsored by ASHA (SV) and conducted by MCF and the 19 Partner Organisations over a period of one year (2008-2009). Base Line & End Line Surveys were conducted, in all the 104 village, on commencement and conclusion of the programme. The survey shows a huge leap in the number of people who are now aware of the RTI. The figures are an approximation.

Sept 2009: MCF sponsored a short RTI workshop for 45 children and teachers of Purkal Youth Development Society in Purkal village on 19th Sept.

Sept 2009: World Vision and MCF conducted RTI workshops at Dehradun on Sept 7th - 8th and Kotdwar on Sept 10th - 11th. 45 children across 10 village were trained on RTI and applications have been completed and are deposited with the village motivators for onward transmittion to the concerned department.

Aug 2009: 104 RTI workshops have been conducted across 12 districts of Uttrakhand by the MCF and the 19 partner organisations identified for this progrogramme sponsored by ASHA (SV). A total of 3,682 children have received training and many have filed RTI applications concerning matters pertaining to their village. Read more....

July 2009: The workshop on 22nd-23rd July 2009 was a mid-point check-in and debriefing with the Partners that have been part of the MCF’s year-long campaign on RTI. June 2009: 14 Partner Organisations have sent in a total of 57 workshop reports along with the details of the RTI applications filed by the children

May 2009: Reports of 45 village level RTI workshops conducted by 12 Partner Organisations have been received. Reports have also been received of how the Baal Panchayats are being able to use the RTI to bring help to the village communities.

April 2009 : By the end of the month a total of 37 village level workshops have been completed and a large number of RTI applications have been filed.

March 2009 : Reports of another enthusiastic village level workshop involving 70 children has been received. A further 12 RTI applications have been filed. Read more....

Feb 2009 : Till date 14 village level workshops have been conducted. Latest list of RTI applications filed Baal Panchayat wise is listed.

Jan 2009: The village level RTI workshops commenced in Jan 2009. There are at present 18 NGOs partnering the MCF in this outreach programme. Each NGO is to identify 5 Bal Panchayats with whom village level workshops will be conducted culminating in RTI applications being prepared and submitted to the concerned departments of the state administration by the children of these Baal Panchayats.
