Tehri:

Tehri is situated in the watershed of the Rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda and is also the site of the controversial Tehri Dam project. The population density in the district is 148 people per square km. The literacy rate is 67%. There are 1,441 primary schools, 383 junior high schools, 68 high schools, and 113 intermediate (classes 11&12) schools. (Census 2001)

Group Activities:

Oct 2010: 5 two day workshops on the Right to Information Act sponsored by Asha (SV) supported by MCF were conducted by Mount Valley Development Association, with the baal panchayats of Sairas, Debri, Chaura, Karkhedi, Khaseti, Gadetha Kandar Gaon and Gawana in the district of Tehri. 179 children participated in the workshops and a number of RTI applications have been filed.

Sept 2009: A total of 10 RTI village level workshops have been conducted in Tehri District of Uttrakhand. These workshops were conducted by MCF with their partner organisations Mount Valley Development Association and Rural Area Development Society (RADS). A total of 209 children were involved in this initiative. RTI applications have been filed by a large number of children on matters which affect their day to day life. Read more ....

Aug 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI worshops in Tehri, Mount Valley Development Association has conducted a series of 5 village level workshops and have involved a total of 150 children. Read about the RTI applications filed by these children.

May 2009: RTI applications filied by the Khal Baal Panchayat have begun to result in positive responses from the concerned government departments.

April 2009: Mahavir of Thati village, Bilangana Development Area, District Tehri has an RTI success story to share with his fellow Baal Panchayats. Read more....

Jan 2009: The Silicon Valley chapter of Asha for Education has joined forces with the MCF to promote understanding and use of the Right to Information act in rural mountain communities. The MCF is partnered by 18 NGOs to help spread the awarness amongst the village children. Mount Valley Development Association in Tehri, is one such partner and they have conducted a series of 5 RTI workshops at the village level.
