Dehradun: The district of Dehradun is located in a valley surrounded by the Mussoorie Hills in the north and the Shivalik hills in the south and the rivers Ganga and Yamuna in the east and west respectively. NGO Partner Organisations: Horawalla Baal Panchayat (Facilitator: Ms Deepika Pawar) Group Activities: Feb 2011: MCF had conducted an RTI training with the Purkal Youth Development Societyin Sept. 2009. The youngsters put their training to good use and have some success stories to contribute. Dec - Feb 2011: 5 two day workshops on the Right to Information Act sponsored by Asha (SV) supported by MCF were conducted by the NGO SEAD, in the district of Dehradun with the baal panchayats of Dhanpauo, Bharaya, Bansu, Dadoli and Samalta villages. 213 children and adults participated in the workshops and some filed RTI applications. Oct 2010: A two day RTI workshop sponsored by Asha was organized by Baal Panchayat Horrawalla with the support of MCF in village Joolon on 2 & 3 October 2010. 36 members represented the 5 villages of Kotada, Horrawalla, Jagatpur Khadar, Joolon and Ramsawalla. Oct 2010: A two day workshop sponsored by Give2Asia and organised by MCF and their partner organisation Society for Environment & Development (SEAD) was overwhelmingly attended by over 100 children,from 9 surounding villages, though only 30 had been invited. Sept 2010: One day follow up workshops sponsored by Give2Asia, was organised by MCF and their partner organisation, Swayam Social Welfare Organisation, Rishikesh in Dehradun district. Read how the children have strenghtened their children's groups and have started interacting with and helping the elders of the area. Aug 2010: The Overhead Braodcasting Van (OB Van) programme launched by the State RTI Commission, was inaugurated at village Horrawala on 28th Aug 2010. Read how the Horrawala Baal Panchayat made all the arrangements and participated in a 2-way communication session with the Chief Information Commissioner in Dehradun. June 2010: During a 2 day RTI facilitators workshop conducted By MCF and supported by Asha(SV) on 16th - 17th June, Deepika who works with Bal Panchayat Horrawala, shared her experience regarding the latest RTI she had filed. She narrated her difficulty about how the response to her RTI had not been sent even after four months. Even though the problem had been immediately solved. Kusum Ghidyal of SEAD, had decided to file applications against small but important issues to bring about basic changes in the villages. All resulted in appropriate action being taken
June 2010: On Enviornment day the Horrawala Baal panchayat took the initiative to organise a drawing competition in Vikasnagar Block. They were supported in this endevour by the MCF. 21 children participated in the competition. The drawings most appreciated by the children are available for viewing. Feb 2010: On 13th-14th feb, a two day workshop on forming a baal panchayat and connecting with the elderly was sponsored by Give2Asia, and organised by MCF and Swayam Social Wefare Organisation, Rishikesh. 33 slum children attended the workshop. Nov 2009: A one day follow-up workshop on the Right to Information Act was organized by SEAD at Pipaya (Lakhsyar) in block Kalsi, district Dehradun on 15th November, 2009. 138 children from 10 villages participated in the workshop. The workshop was also attended by the Gram Pradhan, anganvadi workers, volunteers and members of the village community. Sept 2009: MCF sponsored a short RTI workshop for 45 children and teachers of Purkal Youth Development Society in Purkal village on 19th Sept. Sept 2009: On Sept. 7th-8th, MCF and World Vision initiated RTI training for children of the Sehaspur Block, District Dehradun. Read more.... Sept 2009: A total of 11 RTI village level workshops have been conducted in Dehradun District of Uttrakhand. These workshops were conducted by MCF with their partner organisations Adopt Management Society, Horrawalla Baal Panchayat and SEAD. A total of 426 children were involved in this initiative. RTI applications have been filed by a large number of children on matters which affect their day to day life. Read more .... Aug 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI worshops in Dehradun, Adopt Management Society has conducted a series of 5 village level workshops and have involved a total of 227 children. April 2009: SEAD, Kalsi, Dehradun has conducted 2 more RTI village level workshops in Lohari and Khadhi.One workshop had been conducted in Jan 2009 in Dhiroi village. Jan 2009: The Silicon Valley chapter of Asha for Education has joined forces with the MCF to promote understanding and use of the Right to Information act in rural mountain communities. The MCF is partnered by 18 NGOs to help spread the awarness amongst the village children. However, Horrawalla Baal Panchayat , is a special case and is not assisted by an NGO but is facilitated by a school teacher and the MCF. Read more about this special initiative.... Jan 2009: Adopt Management Society, Dehradun, is one of the 18 partner and they have conducted a series of 3 RTI workshops at the village level.
