Chamoli:

Chamoli is located deep in the heart of Uttarakhand, at the border between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions. It is relatively sparsely populated, with a density of 48 people per square km. The literacy rate is 76.2%. The district has 979 primary schools, 221 junior high schools, and 71 high schools and 53 intermediate schools. The district is studded with major pilgrim centres like Badrinath, Joshimath, Tungnath and Hemkund Sahib, snow-clad peaks and exceptional natural beauty like the valley of flowers.

Group Activities:

July Aug & Sept 2010: 11 two day workshops on the Right to Information Act sponsored by Asha (SV), supported by MCF were conducted by SBMA Gairsain, with the baal panchayats of Kot, Dhamkar, Devpuri, Kansuwa, Bhandarikhod, Beena, Bamangwad, Kunkhet, Naini, Dhanga and Dungri, Chhimta, in the district of Tehri. Training was given to about  443 participants.

June 2010: During a 2 day RTI facilitators workshop conducted By MCF and supported by Asha(SV) on 16th - 17th June, Archana Mehra - of SBMA Gairsain ,Asked for general information on: a)Vaccination b) Birth Certificate c) Roads.
With the use of the RTI Act, children in her area had succeeded in getting a girl of grade 5 admitted in Secondary School. The girl was not getting admission due to non availability of proof of birth/ birth certificate. With the help of the act the children filed an Application and the girl received her Birth Certificate.

Sept 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI workshops in Chamoli are SBMA and SIMAR. SBMA has conducted a series of 13 village level workshops and have involved a total of 687 children while SIMAR has conducted 5 workshops and involved 205 children.
