Bageshwar:

Bageshwar is located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand,and is famed for its ancient temples. The population density is 108 persons per sq. km. There are 627 primary, 87 junior high, 27 high schools, and 37 intermediate (classes 11&12) schools. (Census 2001) and the literacy rate is 71.9%. Situated on the confluence of the rivers Saryu and Gomti, the town is famous for the ancient Bagnath Temple and the annual Uttaraini fair held in January.

Group Activities:

Aug - Jan 2010: 5 two day workshops on the Right to Information Act sponsored by Asha (SV) supported by MCF were conducted by the NGO SIMAR, in the district of Bageshwar with the baal panchayats of Khitaula, Raitoli, Simkhet, Khari (Pinglo) and Manakhet villages. 209 children and adults participated in the workshops and filed RTI applications.

June 2010: During a 2 day RTI facilitators workshop conducted By MCF and supported by Asha(SV) on 16th - 17th June, Bhuvan Chand Pandey ,of SIMAR, informed the gathereing that his RTI applications got the following respnses

  • Positive signs towards road construction.
  • Helped a man who was struggling for 17 years get his pension within few days.
  • An application against teachers who fought amongst themselves neglecting the children of the school.
  • Helped an old man file an application to the bank to sanction his money.  

Sept 2009: MCF's partner for the RTI workshops in Bageshwar, SIMAR, has conducted a series of 5 village level workshops and have involved a total of 170 children. Read about the RTI applications filed by these children.
